 The Legend of Sleeping Dragon Mountain

Sleeping Dragon Mountain is now called Fushan. Located in the west of Shaoxing, south of Jianhu Lake. At an altitude of 74 meters, it stands with Jishan Mountain and Tashan Mountain in the city. It covers an area of 22 hectares and covers an area of 330 mu(Chinese unit of area). It is named after the rolling hills and the shape of a sleeping dragon. In Song Dynasty, there were 72 pavilions on the mountain. There are more than 10 scenic spots, such as Yuewang Terrace, Yuewang Palace, Southern Song Cypress, Qingbai Spring, Feiyi Building, Fengyu Pavilion, Wenzhong Tomb, Sakura Garden, Cliff Stone Carving, Longqiu, Martyrs' Tomb, and Bonsai Garden. 

Long ago, Sleeping Dragon Mountain was just a sandbar, where people settled and led a normal life. There was a family named Pang, whose son Xiongbai was influenced by his father since childhood, and he was well-informed and trained in martial arts. One day, when he was practicing, he found two old men plotting revenge in the bamboo forest. It turned out that thousands of years ago, the Dragon King made waves and caused floods. Later, Dayu ruled the water and killed the Dragon King. After Dayu died, the Dragon King sneaked back to dragon pool for cultivation. When the cultivation achieved, it was preparing to flood Kuaiji Mountain and the Tomb of Dayu.

In order to protect villagers’ lives and property, Xiongbai decided to kill it. He sneaked into the Dragon Palace, while the Dragon King was unnoticed, he stole the dragon bead and hid it in his arms. Unexpectedly, his body became bigger and his strength doubled. He rode on the back of a dragon with a leap, splitting the dragon's mouth with his sword, breaking the belly of the dragon and cutting off its tail.The Dragon King struggled to recapture the dragon bead, and Xiongbai used all his strength to embrace the Dragon King and die together. Soon, Xiongbai's huge body turned into a long mountain range.

In memory of Xiongbai, villagers called this mountain Sleeping Dragon Mountain, while the place where the dragon’s bead fell was called Huozhu Mountain and the place where the dragon tail fell was called Dragon Tail Mountain. Between Sleeping Dragon Mountain and Dragon Tail Mountain, there is a small bulging mountain, which was called Baolong Mountain.
