The most popular Jiangnan town
Shaoxing
A small waterside Jiangnan town,
owns not only poetic landscape,
but also colorful folk life.
Old streets, bridges and the river constitute the typical beauty of Jiangnan,
as if you were back to those plain and innocent days.
Maybe not all people travelling to Jiangnan take it a first choice,
but those who have been here always remember it unconsciously,
because the tranquility and serenity here is nowhere to find.
Angsang Lake
Named with rarely-used Chinese characters, this tranquil lake is easily neglected.
It is hidden in the WindShelter farmstead.
An ancient stone bridge traverses the lake,
merging with the lake and sky in the distance,
as if you would touch the cloud with your hands when reached the other end.
Donghu Lake
Remember to take a black-awning boat here,
which guides you through the cliffs accompanying the rowing sound.
When approaching the Peach Cave,
a big peach composed by the stone gate and its shadow can be seen.
That’s really interesting.
Jianhu Lake
Travelling across the 400km-long Jianhu Lake is just like walking over a mirror.
Sitting in the black-awning boat over the still lake,
with nothing in your mind is also enjoyable.
Black-awning Boat
In Black-awning Boat, Lu Xun wrote:
In your hometown, people usually take rickshaw, tram or car,
but my hometown doesn’t have any of these,
except sedans used in the urban areas or mountains,
boat is the most common traffic tool....
Old bridges
It’s said that Shaoxing has an average of 3.71 bridges per square kilometer,
while in the world-famous waterside city Venice
the average number is only 0.67 per square kilometer.
A bridge appears again some hundred meters away,
with simple style,
either the traditional slate arch bridge or stone beam bridge.
These bridges perfectly fuse
with the old architectures alongside the river,
composing a beautiful landscape of a Jiangnan waterside town.
