Learning from Practice-- Donghu Water and RockBonsai Experience Tour
Keywords: Peach Blossom Spring, the spirit of quarrying, creative imagination
Donghu used to be a mountain closely related with the ancient Yuejian town. She is also a lake that resembles a bright pearl sitting on the ancient canal. She was the product of the quarrying legend and the development of canal culture, an exquisite creation of prominent Shaoxing people of the past and a vivid portrayal of a “rock and water bonsai” described by Master Chen Congzhou, a famous garden landscape artist.
The Donghu Water and Rock Bonsai Experience Tour, which takes the water and rock culture as the theme, seamlessly connects the class activities and sightseeing tours to introduce students to the history of humanities and culture as well as the wisdom of the ancient people behind the natural landscape. By taking part in the extra classroom session featuring a water and stone miniature bonsai DIY, students can create their own bonsais combining the reflection gained from the tour and the classroom session. In other words, students can “wrap up the jade waters and green mountains in the bonsai and bring the beautiful Donghu back home”.
Events:
Visit rock pond: Students will learn about the water and rock culture of Donghu by visiting the Peach Cave, Horn-shape Cave and Dragon Pond;
Study class: Students will combining what they’ve learnt from Peach Blossom Spring to gain a further insight on the history of humanities and culture behind the landscape and the indomitable spirit of quarriers in the past;
