Cangqiao Street

Shaoxing is endowed with both softness of a water town in south China and vitality of a thriving city. Cangqiao Street is one of the lively places. On holidays, there are some streets crowded with tourists. These streets are strongly recommended to visit. Cangqiao Street is one of the representative ancient streets in Shaoxing. Cangqiao Street is located in Yuezicheng Historical and Cultural Reserve. When you enter the street, what comes into your sight are green slab stones, wet mosses, running water and bridges.

Walking on both sides of the street, there are a few inherent gate buildings, shops, small restaurants, featured shops and exhibition halls. The tidiness of the street gains the old neighbourhood great popularity. This street is quiet without strong commercial atmosphere and there are few bustling tour groups. Tourists seem to be getting blended into the local life as they came here.

Walking on the smooth road paved with slab stones, you will discover that there are a lot of delicious food on both sides of Cangqiao Street, some of which are local food with unique Shaoxing flavor. In the street, there are traditional restaurants that specialize in Shaoxing cuisine and other special snacks like anise. And there are also famous restaurants like Zhuangyuan Restaurant, where you can taste the truly authentic Shaoxing food. It is advised to visit the street when there are not so many people and feel the living atmosphere of the locals.
