Ancient Town-Dongpu

Dongpu is also known as the town of Shaoxing rice wine. It is the home to Shaoxing rice wine because Shaoxing rice wine originated from the town. Dongpu has been reputed as the town of water, town of rice wine, town of bridge, town of celebrities since ancient time.

Emperor Qianlong drank the Xiaozhen branded rice wine in Dongpu when he was on his journey to the south. He was quite happy and paid high praise to the wine by inscribing the words Among all the rice wine in the world, the wine from Dongpu is the best. To show his positive appraisal, he gave the top award to it. Dongpu is a small town but with profound culture. There are some neighborhoods on both sides of the river. Everywhere you walk in the town, you will find the locals living quite a leisurely life. When they are free, they relax by strolling and chatting. It seems that life in the town is very harmonious. 

Walking on the road paved with slab stones, you will see some ancient bridges, running water andhouses. There are 216 ancient stone bridges in the town. People live a simple life by river. The local residents enjoy a peaceful life for generations here. The houses with white walls and black tiles as well as the river corridors are what make the town unique and charming.

The former residence of Xu Xilin is situated in the town. At the gate of the town, there is a statue of Xu Xilin in whole-length, which was built to commemorate the leader in the uprising.
